Luminex® Multiplex Bead-Based Immunoassay
Over the last several years, there has been an increased demand for high-throughput, cost-effective and accurate measurement of small proteins and other analytes in clinical and research laboratories in order to improve the study and process of managing different diseases.
As researchers focus on multiple targets, they are moving from single analyte ELISA assays to multiplex bead-based solutions, like the Luminex system. Multiplex bead-based assays allow rapid analysis of a significant number of analytes using a 96-well plate format. Through the use of special microspheres filled with fluorescent dyes, as well as a unique surface design capable of capturing antibodies, receptors, peptides and oligos; the Luminex xMAP technology readers allow analysis of up to 100 reactions or assays per well. This remarkable capability allows incorporating a large number of assays, such as DNA, receptor-ligand, Immunoassay and enzyme in life science research, drug discovery as well as diagnostic areas.
Caliper Luminex Automation Workflows
In collaboration with Luminex, Caliper Life Sciences offers expanded capabilities and workflows to automate the labor intensive manual steps associated with sample preparation and plate loading. Caliper’s Twister II Plate Handler is an ideal automated solution for the Luminex reader plate loading and unloading. Additional options may include a barcode reader for sample tracking and method selection, and a plate washer for bead washing. The Sciclone G3 Workstation and the Zephyr Molecular Biology Workstation are specially designed to automate the routine extraction & purification, sample processing and reaction setup. To take advantage of fully integrated systems combining both sample processing and analysis, Caliper offers the Staccato Protein Workstation and the Staccato Sciclone ELISA.
